Creativity demo 1DRAWING LESSON

Many think that creativity is a gift which some have and others don’t. The truth is everyone has a connection to the Source of inspiration. Here is a simple exercise to activate your connection and help it flow more readily.

You will need a selection of pastel pencils and a pad of sanded pastel paper. Pastels are pure pigments from the earth. Pastel paper has a gritty, sanded surface which creates friction when rubbed against the pigments in the pencils. These two earth elements, rubbed together, function in the same way as rubbing two sticks together ~ they create sparks!

Try creating some small sparks by cutting one sheet of the paper into quarters. A 9″ x 12″ sheet will give you four 4.5″ x 6″ thumbnails. Start by selecting a color paper which appeals to you. It could be dark, medium or light. They open the box of pastel pencils and lay them all out so you can see all of the colors on the table in front of you easily. Using your pad as a cushion, place one cut piece of the paper you have selected on top.

Before you begin, take a deep breath and relax a minute. Ground yourself by imagining yourself outdoors, digging a small hole in the soil. Plant your feet in the hole and cover them. Now imagine spreading yourself out over the surrounding landscape, as if you were peanut butter! Keep going, spread yourself out as far as you can imagine ~ into the grass, fields and trees ~ up into the sky.Creativity demo 1a

Now scan your palette of pencils. Pick up the one which catches your attention. Use it to scribble a shape on the paper. Stop when the urge stops. Put the pencil back and scan the palette again. Continue as long as the urges continue. As the pulses of creative energy slow down, slow down with them. As the urges stop, stop with them.

You can do all four at one sitting or space them out over several sessions. Each one is like much doing aerobic exercise for your creative energy system. Results will be achieved over a period of time.

Note the changes you experience in the rest of your day.
